The founder members of TRENT
CONNECTION first played together when they formed a Dance Band at
College. This was 'The Trent Polytechnic Dance Band' (T.P.D.B.) It was
formed in 1981 with some financial assistance from the Students Union.
Neil
Marriott was the Musical Director for 3 years until he
graduated in 1984. He passed the baton onto Tony Davis 1984/85 who
passed it to Phij Adams 1985/86 who passed it to Jane Dixon 1986/87.
After
we left college we got together, on several occasions, to perform for various
Weddings and Parties and eventually in 1986 created TRENT
CONNECTION as a permanent performing band.
The
founders were Neil Marriott, Jae Marriott, Jane Loomes, David Loomes,
Loraine Page, Maria Hayward, Paul Kenyon, Katie Smith, Andrew
Pearce, Nick Wyver, Richard Smith
and Jenny Peers.
The
founders each contributed £10 to kick the band into life.

More than half
of the founders are still playing, regularly with the band.

The youngest
members of the band were not born when the band was first formed!
I
live in Bicester in Oxfordshire with my wife Jane and our two sons Ben
(8) and Joe (6). I work for Network Associates as a software development
manager for McAfee Security anti-virus and content management products
I'm
clinging onto my career in Telecomunications. Not easy at the moment.
Playing for Nottingham Symphonic Winds and my own band, writing my
own stuff.

Hi,
I’m the one in the sparkly back dress! I’m a Head Teacher of a
Junior School in Nottinghamshire so the Dance Band is a great release
from the pressures of the day job – you certainly can’t think of
anything but the music when you’re playing! I started on Clarinet when
I was 6 years old but soon found the Saxophone a far more fun
instrument.
Living
in Sittingbourne, Kent with Georgia, Fred (18) and Gwen(17) andstill "working" as a
musician/teacher. Current bands are a couple ofsoul/rock
bands, a street band (with Georgia) and an odd quartet of 3saxes
and accordion (playing anything we feel like).

'After
I left Trent, I went back to live with my parents, became a salesman in
the print finishing industry, got fed up with a cockerel in a nearby
garden so married my long-time girlfriend Debbie (only joking), got into
teaching, became Director of Music in an FE college, then Head of
the Art Faculty; got fed up and left to become a full-time education
inspector with the Adult Learning Inspectorate. Still play as much as
possible, and still hope that one day soon I can kick to day job..' (New

Hi,
Browsing on the internet, I was most surprised to
find someone wanting to contact me - I'm Stella Shutler reed player. I
still live in Nottingham but not for long, I'm moving "lock, stock,
barrel and saxes" to Grosseto in Tuscany next month to start a new life
having had more than enough of teaching in English schools.
Having
played the trumpet since the age of 7, you would have thought that I’d
be better at it by now! Music keeps me sane (ish) (my real job is Head
Teacher of a large Primary School) but there’s nothing quite like the
buzz from gigging, especially with a good group of mates.

reunited website. After leaving Trent in 1983, I went to Manchester to
do my PGCE, planning to return to Notts. area to work. However, offered
a teaching post in Manchester and settled here.I am now Head of
expressive arts at a large 11-16 comp.in Salford. Good to see some old
photos, I will see if I can find any for the site - but think I drank
far too much in those days to hold a camera steady!!
If the band are gigging during any
school hols./weekends let me know, would love to come and listen.

Hi if you are still updating site then I
played a couple of times in the early 90,s one gig I remember (probably
my first) was at the Nottingham lace Market (a pub I think)
I now play lead for Stapleford Big Band and
also Front and play Lead in the Ockbrook Big Band.
I have made a couple of CD's of bone music
and am doing some show work. Photo enclosed.
Graduated in 1986 and
started work in Bracknell as a software engineer.Married at the
ripe old age of 34 and now have two children, 1 and 4. Welive
out in the sticks north east of Oxford. Still playing the Trombone butmainly Symphonic "stuff" with the Windsor and Maidenhead
SymphonyOrchestra." Earning a crust from the IT Industry
with Fujitsu Servicesformerly ICL !
